Greetings from Whistler… actually, the drive back from Whistler… which will end up taking twice as long as usual. Maybe an accident ahead… there was a serious one a few days ago that sent 6 people to hospital, involving a Lamborghini. Yesterday, a Ferrari was impounded for going 189 km/h in an 80 zone on the same stretch of road.
Indeed, Whistler was flooded with luxury cars this weekend, as part of a charity luxury supercar weekend. No problem with that, but you Ferrari/Lambo/McLaren people might want to keep the speeds down to where you’re not likely to kill yourself, and take others with you.
The other thing Whistler was flooded with was… tourists. From all over the place… and I do mean, everywhere. Every continent, nation, ethnicity and language was well-represented, just like any other year’s final weekend of summer.
Yeah, I thought the border was supposed to be closed too. It certainly is, to most road traffic. It certainly isn’t, to airplanes. There’s never been a better indication that this will only really be over once there’s a vaccine. There’s no version of “here’s the right thing to do” that will get through to enough people. No social distancing, no masks, crowds in enclosed spaces.
The best we can hope for is that the message is getting through to enough people… so that things are manageable if they get bad. Given the nonchalance and self-centeredness and lack of regard for others I just witnessed, we might be in for a long homestretch.

Shaming them publicly is entirely appropriate.
Yeah. Way too many entitled idiots. That’s why a second wave is inevitable.
🙁 Sad BC hasn’t kept up with our first strong months. Maybe time to go back to Phase 2? Somehow seems like it won’t happen. Quebec, though – wow, what are they doing right over there? ????
Time to buy a place in Sunpeaks Hort!!! The drive up there cuts out all the large crowds ???????? plus the skiing is pretty darn great with champagne powder… shhh!
I agree Horatio. Very well said.
We might want to follow the example of other countries who have successfully kept numbers down. Mandatory testing upon arrival into the country, mandatory (enforced) 14 day quarantine. Otherwise, how do you prevent the virus from reemerging and infecting your population?
I thought there was manditory testing for all incoming flights to Canada.
Check out the CDC exposures list – most are from flights, domestic and International. We need to shut down flights, clubs, bars and parties for a few weeks to get this thing back under control a bit, to keep our kids safe
Just got back from Whistler and was impressed with mask protocol being adhered to; however, we did stay away from over crowded village
My neighbours came up from the states to isolate before going to visit her aging dad. Be nice to the car with the bumper sticker reading, we spent 14 days in isolation together and we’re still married.
Out side of the village stroll, and Rainbow park it was very quiet in Whistler Saturday and Sunday. There was only one car moving on the street all day long.
Hope you are past Murrin park
4 million people have entered Canada since March.
Too many people see the Covid panic for what it is – a political maneuver built around a virus with a zero-point-zero-something true fatality rate. Perhaps not in Vancouver (or major cities) where many folks don’t question the government and like to run with the crowd but when you get into areas where folks think for themselves the realization is everywhere.
Those businesses will
All go under. The wave is coming. Not the virus, the bankruptcies.
I was in whistler two weeks ago. Great golf day, as you don’t encounter the world out there. But once you’re in hotels and restaurants it’s devoid of enjoyment. Temperature checks, high stress people, and procedure. Book a time for the pool. Wait nine elevators. don’t touch the menu. That’s right, the inert piece of paper is the issue. That’s the transmission point. Alright……
We will live in an Amazon, ebay, door dash world of anti-social people hibernating and watching Netflix as we wait for a non-existent and not forthcoming magical elixir.
This is stupid.
